WEAVING-TAPESTRY-NATURAL DYES

  • 1983 I commenced taking weaving lessons at the Museum of Folklore Art "Aggeliki Chadjimichali"
  • 1984 I was taught the technique of Greek handmade rug at the department of Weaving of XAN (Christian Brotherhood for the Youth)
  • 1985 I completed learning traditional weaving techniques and the technique of tapestry at EOMMEX (Hellenic Organisation of Small and Medium Enterprises and Crafts)
  • 1985-6 I took lessons of design-painting and history of art at the school "Veloudaki"
  • 1987 I set up the weaving workshop "Agnythes" (weights used in ancient looms). During the same year I took part in a group exhibition of weaving tapestry organised by EOMMEX in Athens
  • 1990-2 I was taught the art of natural dying of textile materials by the tapestry expert Sofia Tata
  • 1995 Exhibition of my woven pieces in Hydra at the Art Room "Melina Merkouri" where I organised a seminar of weaving for primary school children
  • 1997 Exhibition in Martignas (France), invited by the Municipality and was praised for the presentation of Greek weaving and natural dyes
  • 2000 Usage of cellulose acetate in the production of two-metre scarves and shawls in various colours and many more materials in new designs. They were presented at the Psychiko Municipality and at various magazines like "Ey zein" and "Athenorama"
  • 2000-2005 I participated at the programme "psychargo" of the Greek Ministry of Health for the education and employment of the people participating in the programme. We organised exhibitions in Nafplio, Tripoli, Athens with tapestry and woven textiles which were their own creations
  • 2002 The Peloponnesean Folklore Institute (PFI) and its creator Mrs. Papantoniou trusted me with the weaving of ancient Greek tunics which were presented in the exhibition of Greek clothing history from the Minoan era to today
  • 2004 I created on behalf of PFI fabrics which were worn during the reception of the Olympic flame in Sparti
  • 2006 I was taught clothing pattern making at Pan-Sik and I started making clothes using my hand woven materials. In parallel, I continue producing hand woven textiles for the Greek and international markets
